Why don't they just go the whole hog and call themselves a church?
Think of the options... numerical analysts wearing the coarse robes
and rope belts of the Fortran Order, the sysadmins appointing
themselves Operating Thetans of the Operating System, a whole
separate outfit abstaining from side-effects for a month to mark
the flight of Robin Milner from Cambridge, another lot that would
emulate death-of-God theologians by making backtracking into a
central dogma, another bunch that would try to prove Max Weber
right by arguing that the only point of it was to keep business
rolling, Satanists who give most of their files permissions of
666, people whose holiest ritual involves guys in white robes
doing incomprehensibly arcane things with wafers...
